UNGA High-level Plenary on Global Peace

24 September 2018
New York, USA

On Monday, 24 September, the UNGA will hold a high-level plenary meeting on global peace. Also called the 'Nelson Mandela Peace Summit,' it is based on UNGA resolution 72/243, by which UN Member States decided to hold a high-level plenary meeting on global peace in honor of the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela.

In January 2018 UNGA President Miroslav Lajcak appointed Jerry Matthews Matjila, Permanent Representative of South Africa, and Geraldine Byrne Nason, Permanent Representative of Ireland, to co-facilitate a consultative process with Member States to produce a political declaration for adoption at the plenary meeting.

The zero draft of the declaration was released on 29 May 2018. The summit will take place on 24 September, the day before the start of the general debate for UNGA 73.
